Grand Opening Celebration - West Side Wastewater Treatment Facility

The City of Fayetteville will celebrate the grand opening of the West Side Wastewater Treatment Facility and the completion of Broyles Road with a ceremony and luncheon on Thursday, August 28th at 10:00 AM.  The ceremony is open to the public and will take place at the West Side Facility located at 15 S Broyles Ave in Fayetteville. Fayetteville Water and Sewer Committee to Hold Special Meeting: Water System Requires Improvements for High Elevation Areas

The Fayetteville City Council’s Water and Sewer Committee will host a public meeting on Thursday, August 21 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss required water system improvements for Mt. Sequoyah, Hyland Park, and other higher elevations.  Members of the City Council, City staff, and engineers will be present to provide information and answer questions.

The City of Fayetteville Government Channel and the Washington County Chapter of the League of Women Voters announced the scheduled production of all remaining "Meet the Candidate" events for the 2008 election season.  The League has set the rules for the events and has developed the questions for the candidates. During the Mayoral debate only questions will be accepted from the audience.

The City of Fayetteville Sewer Utility is providing a partial refund of some sewer rates paid by customers with accounts outside the city limits of Fayetteville during the period February, 2004 through April, 2007. The refund does apply to customers who received service in Farmington, Greenland, southern portions of Johnson, and unincorporated areas of Washington County.

Fayetteville Parks and Recreation and the Artists of Northwest Arkansas are very proud to announce the 5th Annual Wilson Park Art Walk will take place on Saturday, October 11 from 9am - 2pm. This event features as many as fifty artists from all over Northwest Arkansas, who display many pieces of thier work and offer many items for sale. If you purchase the art at the park on the day of the event, a portion of the proceeds benefits Parks and Recreation.

Fayetteville Parks and Recreation is excited to welcome more than 1,200 kids to the Fall Soccer Program. Kids have been divided onto 113 different teams that will play at Lewis and Asbell Parks from August 23 - October 20. Fayetteville Parks and Recreation is excited to host the second and final "Dive In Movie" at Wilson Park Pool on Friday, July 25. On this night, "Surfs Up" will be shown in an event that is free to the public. Gates open at 7:30, with the movie beginning at approximately 8:30. This event is made possible by a very generous donation from the Fayetteville Firefighters Association.

Fayetteville Plays Host to Youth Softball World Series

Fayetteville Parks and Recreation and the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotions Commission will team up to host the United States Specialty Sports Association's Youth Slow Pitch Softball World Series. The Tournament will begin Thursday, July 17 and is tentatively scheduled to conclude on Sunday, July 20. All games will be played at Lake Fayetteville Softball Complex and Gary Hampton Softball Complex.

The City of Fayetteville is accepting bids from properly licensed contractors for the construction of a new courts building, located at 140 W. Rock, Fayetteville, Arkansas 72701. This project includes demolition of a city jail and construction of a new courts building to be constructed on the same site, which is approximately 15,000 square feet.  This project is currently registered with the U.S Green Building Council and shall be planned for a LEED Silver Certified Building.

The Lake Fayetteville Watershed Partnership will hold their annual Fall Lake Fayetteville Clean Up on Saturday, October 11th, starting at 9:00 am.  This year the Watershed Partnership is again working with the City of Fayetteville by hosting this clean up as part of the Great Arkansas Clean Up sponsored in part by Keep Arkansas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful.

Fayetteville to give away free mulch while supplies last

The City of Fayetteville’s Solid Waste and Recycling Division would like to announce the distribution of free mulch to the public.  Due to the excess supply of mulch, which resulted from Tropical Storm Ike, the City will allow the public to receive the mulch, at no charge, during normal operating hours at the City’s Compost Facility located at 1708 S. Armstrong Ave. in southeast Fayetteville.   The mulch will be given away until supplies are exhausted. Facility hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 8 am to 3 pm and the first Saturday of each month from 8 am until noon.

Fayetteville to compete in National Recycling Challenge

Fayetteville will be competing with other cities of the same size for up to $10,000 in awards, which would be used to support recycling efforts through local education and awareness programs.  If every household in Fayetteville recycled just two more cans per week there would be close to 2 million more aluminum cans recycled in Fayetteville each year!  The 2007 average price paid to the City of Fayetteville for aluminum cans is $1,727 per ton!

The City of Fayetteville will holds its Kick-off for the Fayette Junction Master Plan on Thursday, September 4, 2008, 5:30 p.m. at Staybridge Suites. Neighborhood stakeholders, elected officials and Planning staff will gather to officially begin the Fayette Junction Master Plan project. Denele Campbell, who published an article about the history of Fayette Junction, will provide a brief talk about the area, and food will be provided by Foghorn's and Pig-N-Whistle.

The City of Fayetteville Long Range Planning Division seeks to hire an architectural intern or licensed architect to participate as a team member in a week-long community design charrette. The City intends to create a Master Plan for the Razorback Road corridor from I-540 to 15th Street that sets forth a vision for the future of development in this area. The Fayetteville Historic District Commission will celebrate National Historic Preservation month at White Hangar on Thursday, May 8 at 5:15 p.m. Mayor Dan Coody will open the event with a proclamation recognizing Preservation month and the recent historic preservation efforts that have resulted in the designation of Drake Field White Hangar as Fayetteville’s first local ordinance district. This Place Matters is the theme of the month-long celebration, which is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Walker Park Neighborhood Proposed Zoning for Review

The proposed rezoning for the Walker Park Neighborhood will be on display in the Planning office from April 14 to April 22 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The rezoning proposal was developed during a charrette held in the fall of 2007 and will be heard by the Planning Commission on April 28, 2008. The display will allow property owners and stakeholders to ask questions and give informal comments to planners before the first public hearing.

Mayor Dan Coody will hold a press conference on Thursday March 20, 2008 at 11:00 AM at City Hall to announce the City’s partnership with the Dickson Street Music Festival and Springfest to promote environmental stewardship and encourage groups involved with the event to reduce, reuse, and/or recycle waste produced by the festival.  The City will be providing recycling stations for the event.

Fayetteville, AR  - The City of Fayetteville will start live web streaming of many City meetings beginning tonight with the City Council meeting at 6:00 PM.  Citizens can access the on-line video by visiting our site and clicking on the City Meetings: On-Line Video link on the left side of the home page. During a live video stream of the City Council meeting, the web site offers citizens the ability to view documents associated with the agenda items while viewing the meeting.  When viewing archived items, the system offers a number of conveniences including the ability to watch an entire meeting or simply jump to the agenda item of their choice rather than viewing the full video.
